International Women's Month: Celebrating Crystal Miller

In honor of International Women’s History Month, VANOMA is pleased to celebrate our very first woman President! Crystal Miller has been an integral part of the board since 2022, where she began as a Director-At-Large, helping to lead and establish VANOMA’s in-person Project Pipeline Summer Camp. In 2023, Crystal Miller was elevated to Vice President, and in 2025 elected President.

Beyond VANOMA, Crystal also holds several pivotal roles within the Virginia design community. She is the Department Chair for the Architectural Engineering Department at Brightpoint Community College, which annually hosts our Project Pipeline Summer Camp. Crystal also serves as an Advisory Council Member for Storefront for Community Design and as a Committee Member for the Greater Richmond Association for Commercial Real Estate (GRACRE).

Crystal Miller is a graduated from The University of Virginia in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and completed a Master of Architecture from The New School of Architecture (San Diego, CA) in 2012. She has over 20+ years of experience as an architect and educator. Crystal has practiced as a licensed architect in both Phoenix, Arizona and Richmond, Virginia, and also taught at the ITT Technical Institute in the Department of Architecture and Engineering during her time in Arizona.

Despite years of creating a diverse portfolio of skills, Crystal still considers herself first and foremost a designer. She is constantly exploring new avenues, technical & abstract, that lead her towards creating stronger design solutions. Her favorite projects include those which afford opportunities for site and background research, complex space planning solutions, and input from the extended community.  As an educator she is able to use her advanced problem-solving skills in different ways as well as extend her passion for mentoring beyond the classroom to help underserved communities through the influence of Architecture and Urban Planning.

We are so proud to have such an exceptional and qualified woman leading our organization into the future.
