2025 Diversity ARE Scholarship

Award Intent: VA NOMA is committed to increasing the number of licensed minority Architects within the industry. We know the high cost of the architectural licensure examinations and study materials can be a barrier to our members.

The purpose of this scholarship is to support minority associates and underrepresented emerging professionals with financial assistance to complete their exams. Students eligible for licensure exams are also welcome to apply.

 

This scholarship is geared towards both first time test takers and in-progress test takers. You are encouraged to apply regardless of your testing progress. Up to two award winners will be selected for a reimbursement award of $750 each. This award can be spent on both exam seats and study materials. 

 

Scholarships are exclusive to NOMA(S) members and preference will also be given to applicants that work for firms that do not contribute to the cost of exams or reimburse the cost of failed exams. Identifying information (i.e. name and email) will be removed from your submission prior to jury selection review. 

About the Scholarship

Award

2 recipients, $750 reimbursement each.

​For Reimbursement:

  • Provide receipts for payments made after the award is received: $250 exam and other licensure-related study materials, books, practice questions & programs.

  • Reimbursements are provided up to a maximum of $750.

  • Receipts must be submitted BEFORE Dec 1st, 2025 in order to be reimbursed.

  • Recipients must register for at least one exam by Dec 1st, 2025.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, you must meet all 5 requirements:

  1. Candidate must be an unlicensed design professional pursuing Architectural Licensure and currently eligible to sit for the Architect Registration Exam.

  2. Candidate must plan to take at least one ARE exam this year or purchase a seat by Dec 1st, 2025.

  3. Candidate must live and/or work in Virginia.

  4. Candidate must be a NOMA or NOMAS member. Chapter designation is not required.

  5. Candidate must identify as a minority.

Timeline

  • March 1st -  Application Opens 

  • April 30th 11:59pm - Application Closes

  • By the beginning of June, all applications will be reviewed and award recipients will be determined.

    • Please upload 1 recommendation letter from a current or former supervisor, project manage

    • .project architect or professor. 1 page max

    • Please upload 1 essay. 1 page, 500 words max. Select from 2 prompt choices
